Help us get ready for the next 25 years in the Strom
The Strom is now 25 years old. Our 820-seat auditorium has made a difference in our school and in our community not only by offering a top notch performance center, but also by providing the opportunity for students to engage deeply in all aspects of the auditorium operations.
The Strom Auditorium is a community theater space attracting a wide variety of cultural events to the Midcoast while providing a unique education opportunity for students from Appleton, Camden, Hope, Lincolnville and Rockport.
As we look forward to the Strom’s next quarter century, The Next 25 committee, in collaboration with the school administration and with input from the Friends of CSD, has established what the Strom needs to remain the premier performing arts venue in Midcoast Maine.

Behind the scenes
We take pride in keeping the Strom Auditorium as one of the premier live theater venues in the state. But behind that image lies the reality of keeping a performance space running: filling and sanding gouges in the floor, repairing curtains, safety inspections, and on and on. As we head into our next 25 years, we have a series of upgrades, replacements, and improvements we'd like to do.
New Seats
While many of our seats are still in great shape, we are starting to see the wear and tear that comes from so many people enjoying our shows over the last 25 years. And with spare parts no longer available, we're at a point where replacement becomes our only option.
New Curtains
Our curtains are torn and paint spattered, which happens in a vibrant working space like ours. More importantly to us, our current curtains require fire proofing every five years, which newer curtains wouldn't.
New LED Lighting
While we have started the journey to LED lighting in the Strom, the vast majority of our lights are still older incandescent fixtures. The move to LEDs would let us save electricity while also providing us with more flexibility for how we use the lights.
